Rays of Sunshine

One incredibly memorable way in which children will come to know of a mother’s love without even being told is by providing visual reminders in the context of a child’s life of what their birth means to a mother.

Sure, pictures of children plastered throughout the house, refrigerator magnets (if you happen to have an older refrigerator that accepts magnets), ribbons, awards, and the like, are all reminders. They certainly appeal to a child’s self-esteem. But, one way to establish that warm and fuzzy knowing that they are loved is demonstrated in this hand made and homemade wall hanging, dubbed for the purposes of this blog “Rays of Sunshine”.

The sun’s rays represent the very special life the child is whose very presence shines on mothers. What could be more precious than having a child’s footprints relate to that ray of sunshine traveling across vast distances to connect that symbiotic relationship a child has with a mother. Neither ninety-three million miles nor the distance across the entire universe is too far for those rays to reach a mothers’ heart.

So, here is the demonstration of true love between a mother and a daughter. All you need for the sunshine baby footprint wall hanging made on a white canvas board is shown in this picture:
Choose your desired color of tempera paint as long as one color is yellow, which is needed for the sun. Tempera paint can be washed off, which is important after stamping the child’s footprints on the wall hanging. Sponge brushes make it easy to put the paint where you want it. Here, this mother’s child, MylaAnn, had a blast getting her feet painted and washed off with soapy water. She smiles about everything, even the yellow paint on her feet.
And here is MylaAnn imprinting the step that represents the ray of sunshine she is to her mother.
All that is left is to embellish in freehand style what you, mom, are trying to remind MylaAnn of using a permanent marker. That she is Your Sunshine cannot be denied.
Make it easy for MylaAnn to connect such expressions of love across generations by making a hanging for Mom & Nanna, grandma.
Here is a nice video of "You Are My Sunshine" to enjoy.  (If you cannot see the video on your iPhone or iPad, click on the link You Are My Sunshine by Susan Boyle).
